IRS PHONE SCAM ALERT

scam alert 277e0

The Office of the Sheriff is reminding all residents about a recent phone scam. Caller claims to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and states you owe back taxes and/or fines. They say if the resident doesn't pay, the local sheriff's office will be coming to their home to arrest them. Obviously, this type call distresses our residents. This scammer wants your credit card information. DO NOT talk to these scammers, just hang up and certainly DO NOT give them your personal or credit card information. Most of these calls originate outside the United States. The IRS states they would not contact you in this manner and local law enforcement would not be called to arrest in this type situation.
